I. Quantitative Biology part I - Introduction
held on the 14th of April in Münster
Short introduction to amino acids. Their function and properties are explained. Additionally some exploration of non-proteinogenic amino acids and post translational modifications was shown.
II. Quantitative Biology part II - Proteins
held on the 21th of April in Münster
Short introduction to proteins. Their function and properties are explained. Folding and what kind of small forces are contributing to the structure of proteins. The stability of collagen is described in particular. Additionally the kinetics of enzymes and their different modes of inhibition are shown.
III. Quantitative Biology part III - Biological macromolecules
held on the 5th of May in Münster
Short overview of dimensions and limitations of molecule detection. Brief introduction to NMR and AFM; more detailed introduction to x-ray crystallography. Furthermore it was shown where to get pdb files, how the files are structured and how pdb files can be displayed and visually inspected. A short presentation of VMD was given.
