At the University of Freiburg I first studied chemistry and mathematics to become a teacher. Luckily I changed my mind 3 years later, after having completed the "Zwischenpruefungen" (equivalent to a Bachelors) in Linear Algebra I&II, Statistics, Analysis I,II&III, Physics, and Inorganic and Organic Chemistry. During that time I also worked in a diving shop in Freiburg and become a PADI diving instructor.
I then went on to study Biology and obtained my Diploma 3 years later (main subject Biochemistry and side subjects Plant physiology and Genetics) and proceeded to do my Diplomarbeit (equivalent to a Masters) in HD Dr. Anja Krieger-Liszkay's laboratory at the University of Freiburg.
After this I completed my PhD thesis half in Freiburg with HD. Dr. Anja Krieger-Liszkay and half in Paris/Saclay (France) in the laboratory of Prof. Dr. A.W. Rutherford.
In Feb 2006, I started my PostDoctorate in Prof. Dr. Marilyn Gunner's laboratory in New York (City College of New York). The laboratory is specialised in computational Biophysics, especially continuum electrostatic calculations in proteins. After a while my focus became structurual bioinformatics, where I developped a python framework (p3d - to be published) that allows high-throughput pdb analysis. Since the lab was interested in heme binding sites, detailed analysis and charmm calculations were performed ( see e.g. here).
Returned to Germany in March 2008 with a Humboldt Feodor-Lynen return grant to join Prof. Dr. Michal Hippler's laboratory at the University of Münster.
Voilà so far ...
